Generally intended for the use of government servants. Large building in a peaceful location on the edge of the village. Fairly simple, large rooms, running water. Very welcoming place. We had dinner as guests of the Sub- Divisional Officer each night but he has since moved elsewhere in Assam. Great place for walking and birdwatching. Interesting mixture of local tribes with their own customs, dress, music etc. You can also visit the "satras", where the vaishnavite culture is practised. To get there take a bus or auto-rickshaw from Jorhat to Namatighat, then ferry to Majuli Island. A short bus journey at the other side of the river (about 4 K's) takes you to Garamurh. Majuli Island is claimed to be the largest riverine island in the world. Meals available but have to be arranged in advance Circuit House Assam Rates and Room Information
We paid a nominal charge - about 100R's but this may have changed.
